After enjoying the University of Tokyo campus, visit shrines and enjoy Michelin’s finest tonkatsu in Kanda.
This time, we will start from the campus where the Red Gate of the University of Tokyo is located, which is usually inaccessible. The nearest station is Hongo-sanchome station.(Marunouchi Line M21、Oedo Line E08)。
People who have no connection to the University of Tokyo can enter the campus without permission as long as they are not in a group. You can enjoy the beautiful tree-lined avenues, buildings, and the atmosphere of the school cafeteria.
It is so large that you may run out of time just here, but if you go around for an hour, exit from “Tatsuokamon” or “Kasuga-mon” and you will be in the direction of “Yushima Tenjin”, the next spot you will head for.
Yushima Tenjin is the god of academics. Since there are many famous universities along this route, you will see many college students and students about to become college students. Let’s walk while cheering them on in your heart.
Around Ochanomizu Station, there are many places of interest such as musical instrument stores, Nicolai Hall, and the Yamanoue Hotel, so please walk in a circle.
The last spot, Ponchiken, offers delicious tonkatsu (pork cutlet) in a somewhat Showa-era atmosphere.
Ogawamachi Station (Toei Shinjuku Line S07), Awajicho Station (Marunouchi Line M19), and Shin-Ochanomizu Station (Chiyoda Line C12) are the closest stations to this area. There is a beautiful Starbucks near Awajicho Station, so take your time to have a cup of tea and go home.
